Wool Bridge

Plaque on the old stone bridge in the village of “Wool” in the south western English County of Dorset.
Message states: ”
DORSET
Any person wilfully INJURING any part of this COUNTY BRIDGE will be guilty of FELONY and upon conviction liable to be TRANSPORTED FOR LIFE by the Court
7&8 Geo 4 C30S13 T FOOKS
”
Transportation would normally mean being sent to the Australian penal colony.
The location is/was here 50.683805, -2.221417, crossing the River Frome.
Note that the plaque was removed sometime in the last 10 years, maybe to stop encouraging people to damage the bridge in order to get cheap transport to Australia.
