Originally named ""The Railwaymen's Club"", the venue opened in 1931. It was a club where workers came to gamble and drink. In 1980 its name was changed to ""The Railway Club"".It became a hangout for ""left wingers and poets and posties and plumbers"".It 2012 it was recognized as one of Vancouver's ""Places that Matter"" by the Vancouver Heritage Foundation.In 2016 it was announced that the Club would close forever.
