The following text is included in the description: French Armada Anchor This anchor from a ship of the 1796 French Armada was recovered off the north-east point of Whiddy Island, Bantry Bay in 1980 by the Dutch Salvage Co. "Smith Tak" In the custody of Mr Donal McCarthy, House of Crafts, Wolfe Tone Square, for the last 16 years who presented it to Cork County Council in 1998 for erection in Bantry Square on the 200 anniversary of the ill-fated French Armada Pictured here V9948 : French Armada Anchor, The Square, Bantry
