Plaque reads:
'Johnny's Well was not a well in the accepted sense, but a spring which provided clean water to passing ships from ports the world over, including American whalers. Water from Johnny's Well was said to have had extraordinary keeping qualities, remaining fresh over long sea voyages. THe well is believed to have been named after one of the local Worimi people.
The Cromarty family, who ran cattle on the area now know as Soldiers Point, are thought to be the last regular users of the well, with Ross Cromarty recalling bing a regular visitor to the area in the 1920's.
