The last in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This fifteenth one relates to the reign of Elizabeth II between her golden and diamond jubilees (i.e. 2002 to 2012). The town is awarded 13 Green Flags for its parks, four Blue Flags for its beaches, and a Purple Flag for the management of its night-time economy. The Council's Parks Department wins gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show. The Bournemouth Air Show becomes a popular annual event, over 100 years after the town held Britain's first such show in the 1910. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaques for the introductory plaque, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for an overall view of five of the plaques, providing some context.
