One of a number of similar plaques depicting the history of the quay, this one relates to the Second World War. The plaque tells of how the gun emplacements situated here were tested once and caused cracking to occur in the harbour wall! It also recounts the two men in the lifeboat 'Mouette', John Slade and Tom Escott, who went to investigate an object in the water, only to find it was a mine that exploded and claimed them both.
