This commemorative plaque, typical of those on late Victorian engineering works, reads: "This bridge was erected & the works in connection herewith carried out in the year 1888. Mount, Mayor. W.J.Jennings, Architect. H.Hill, Contractor." Surprisingly, the Mayor is only referred to by his surname but presumably it was William Mount who is listed as an Alderman in 1889 (source: Link ) For the context of the plaque see TR1458 : Causeway Bridge, Canterbury.
