Saxon Way Bridge (see SP9011 : Saxon Way Bridge on the Wendover Arm & SP9011 : View through Saxon Way Bridge) carries the A41 "Saxon Way" over the currently disused - but undergoing restoration - Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal. This bridge is numbered 5A as it has been inserted between bridge 5 at Drayton Beauchamp (see SP9011 : Wendover Arm - Bridge 5 - Drayton Beauchamp) and bridge 6 at Bucklandwharf. The lower, oval plaque shows the bridge number, while the larger circular upper one informs us: "The Burial Site of a Saxon Princess was discovered nearby in 2001" encircled by the words "Drayton Beauchamp Parish" at the top and "Buckinghamshire County Council" below. This discovery led to the A41 Aston Clinton bypass being named "Saxon Way" which in turn resulted in this bridge being the "Saxon Way Bridge". According to yet another small plaque, this one attached to the span over the canal, the bridge was opened in October 2003.
