The church of St John Zachary was first mentioned in official records in 1181. St John Zachary was named after a monk called Zacharie to whom St John the Baptist church was granted by St Paul's canons in the 12th century. The monk's name was incorporated into the church title to distinguish it from St John the Baptist, Walbrook. St John Zachary was only about 50 yards from St Anne and St Agnes and was not rebuilt after the Great Fire of London. See Link
