The inscription on the plaque reads, "This anchor which belonged to the French War Vessel "LAUSUN" 28 Guns on which King James 2nd embarked after the battle of the Boyne in Waterford harbour accompanied by his Aide de Camp and kinsman Claude 4th Earl of Abercorn was presented to the Duke of Abercorn when Lord lieutenant of Ireland by the Waterford Harbour Commissioners as a mark of their respect for his Grace and as a memento of the period in which his Anchestor bore a galliant and devoted part".
