McPherson Playhouse
Dedicated 26th February 1965
Named in honour of
Thomas Shanks McPherson
Born Airdrie, Scotland. Prominent businessman, philanthropist and a citizen of Victoria for fifty-three years, who died at the age of 89 years on 3rd December 1962, and under who's will a bequest including this theatre was made to the City of Victoria.
**
This plaque does not properly contextualize the fact that bequests from the McPherson estate were used to partially fund the construction of the adjacent Centennial Square and the rehabilitation of Royal Athletic Park by the City of Victoria, as well as the McPherson Library at the University of Victoria. Plaques honouring McPherson's legacy appear at Royal Athletic Park and the University of Victoria library.
