Maliebaan

This plaque tells the history of this long straight lane in Utrecht. It was created in 1637, as a  700 meters long track for the "maliespel" game, which is like a forerunner of golf and croquet. University cities all over Europe were creating these to attract students, in the years 1630-1650. The Maliebaan in Utrecht/NL was outside the city  when it it started, and now it is a long and elegant street just outside city centre. The rows of tree still mark the old track.
