Mary E. Keyes Residence

This residence, opened in 2003, is named in honour of Dr. Mary E. Keyes (1940 - 2002). Dr. Keyes began her career at McMaster in 1964 as Associate Professor of Kinesiology and in 1981 was appointed Director of the School of Physical Education and Athletics. She was a Fellow of the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and a founding member of the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport. Her dedication and commitment were also recognized through several awards including membership in McMaster’s Athletic Hall of Fame and honorary membership in the McMaster Alumni Association.

Mary worked tirelessly to ensure students’ interests and concerns were foremost in every aspect of her career at McMaster. An Associate Vice-Chair of Student Affairs from 1992 – 2002, Mary advocated for and devoted her career to building and enhancing student life and services at McMaster. Her hard work, energy and enthusiasm were unmatched.

Mary has left a legacy of integrity, friendship, compassion and mentorship which will live on in the many people she has loved and nurtured at home, at work and at play.
