This plaque tells the story of the large "house Zoudenbalch", built by Evert Zoudenbalch AD 1467. Actually it was built as a new facade in front of several existing buildings. Therefore the facade is not symmetrical and the windows are not evenly placed along the front. After the death of Evert in 1503 the house was kept in the family, served as a secret church during the reformation, and in the 18th century it served as a roman-catholic orphanage. After destruction by fire it was reconstructed in 1905 by architect Pierre Cuypers (famous for Amsterdam central station and Rijksmuseum). After another reconstruction in 2011 it now holds 24 apartments. Submitted by Danny Kalkhoven
