This house was part of the home of John Forsyth located on this property. As U.S. Minister to Spain, in 1819 Forsyth negotiated the treaty by which Florida was acquired by the United States.
He was Congressman from Georgia, 1813- 1818; 1823- 1827; Governor of Georgia, 1827- 1829; U.S. Senator, 1819; 1829- 1834; Secretary of State of the United States, 1834- 1841.
In 1832, he successfully led the State`s opposition to the nullification movement at the Milledgeville Convention.
