First Telephone, Cedar Rapids Iowa
At this site and directly across the street on Nov 22, 1877 the first two telephones were installed in Cedar Rapids at H. C. Waite's Music Store 21 Iowa Ave and Pope and Billau Drug Store 22 Iowa Ave- now 1st Ave. July 4th, 1776. This plaque placed by Northwestern Telephone Company and the Telephone Pioneers of America celebrating the Centennial of the telephone March 10th 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell and the bicentennial of this great land the United States of America.
