Heritage Building
First Baptist Church
Architects: Burke, Horwood & White
This building is the third home of the First Baptist Church. The cornerstone was laid on April 2, 1910 by John Morton, a Baptist laymen and one of the “Three Greenhorns” who originally pre-empted the land on which the church now stands. It was dedicated on June 11, 1911. A serious fire gutted the interior in 1931. Restoration was carried out by Charles Bentall, a church member, and his company Dominion Construction. The church is home to the oldest Baptist congregation in Vancouver, established on March 16, 1887.
