Brieven van Belle

The 18th century writer and "Independant woman" Belle van Zuylen lived in the castle nearby. Besides novels and plays, she wrote letters to the people hiking around the castle, and at some spots plaques are placed which describe the location through the writings of Belle. This plaque is near a windmill, and reads (in short): "Dear walker, from my small green room at the castle I can see this mill. To my restless spirit the slowly rotating windmill wings were almost hypnotising. My father owned the right to the wind and the use of a mill, which I find unjust, as we had no issues with the wet land in our castle...."
