The third in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This third one relates to the last 20 years of the reign of George III (i.e. 1800-1820). The main event in this period as far as Bournemouth is concerned is that Lewis Tregonwell, on leaving the yeomanry, brought his wife here; she fell in love with the area and he built a house here, effectively founding the town of Bournemouth. Also mentioned is the Earl of Malmesbury, who had much local land ceded to him in 1802 - his name lives on in the area as the suburb of Malmesbury Park (chiefly in SZ0992). See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaques for the introductory plaque, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for an overall view of five of the plaques, providing some context. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (2) for the previous plaque in the series, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (4) for the next one.
