The thirteenth in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This thirteenth one relates to the first 25 years of the reign of Elizabeth II (i.e. 1952-1977). The Rothesay Museum opens near the Royal Bath Hotel but makes way for the beach car park and Bath/Exeter Road flyover in 1971 (see SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Bath/Exeter Road crosses the Pier Approach). An even more major road development is the town-centre by-pass, opened in 1973. Bournemouth is merged into Dorset County Council in 1974. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaques for the introductory plaque, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for an overall view of five of the plaques, providing some context. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (12) for the previous plaque in the series, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (14) for the next one.
