The plaque on the wall of Ashton Armoury reads: TAMESIDE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH RQMS HARRY GRANTHAM MBE DCM (1889-1959) 9th Battalion The Manchester Regiment Born and lived in Ashton-unde-Lyne Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery in Gallipoli in 1915 and the MBE for services to the Territorial Army He would like to be rememberd for his commitment to the care of ex-servicemen Unveiled on 30th October 2000 by Joe Grantham
