This stone stands at the riverside entrance to Everholm Park, and the plaque below states: "Quarter Cake is the name given to this slice of ground in Everholm Park. In 1824 the bridge down stream from you was built using stone quarried from the banks of the river and floated past here on specially built barges. This slice of sandstone was made when desert sands were washed into low lying areas during flash floods. Over millions of years the sand has been cemented together to become a fine red stone used in many of the buildings in ANNAN."
