This plaque reads: “Erected by the California Alpine Club and dedicated to those members who gave their services to our country during the Great War — AD 1919″ The plaque was originally placed on a 12′-high memorial rock cairn that was built from stones hand-carried up Mt. Tamalpais, but when the cairn was bulldozed in 1950 to build the Mt. Tamalpais Air Force Station on West Peak, the plaque was removed to the Alpine Club clubhouse at 730 Panoramic Hwy in Mill Valley, California. The story of the cairn is featured in the short documentary about Mt. Tamalpais called “The Invisible Peak.” Directions to the Alpine Club are here: http://tinyurl.com/kg3e8d2 and their website is here: http://www.calalpineclub.org
