W. Goodrich Jones State Forest

W. Goodrich Jones State Forest

This forest of 1633 acres, purchased by the state in 1924, is used for research and demonstration of timber growing and is administered by The Texas Forest Service, A. & M. College.

It was named in honor of the "Father of Forestry in Texas," W. Goodrich Jones, who organized The Texas Forestry Association and through whose efforts the 34th legislature passed a law in 1915 which embarked the state on a forestry conservation program of far reaching importance.

This plaque, dedicated 1948 by The Texas Forestry Association in honor of its founder and in appreciation of his great contribution to the cause of forestry in the State of Texas, is offered in the hope that future generations will remember and honor the name of W. Goodrich Jones.
