The Princes' Gates

"The Princes' Gates were officially opened on Tuesday August the 30th MDCCCCXXVII [1927] by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales accompanied by H.R.H. Prince George. First to pass through these gates was a Veterans' Parade under the auspices of the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League for review by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales."

• The Prince of Wales referred to on the plaque became King Edward VIII in 1936 and later abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson; H.R.H. Prince George then became King George VI (of "The King's Speech" fame). H.R.H. Prince George's daughter, who was an infant when this plaque was erected, later became Queen Elizabeth II.
