Represents a distinct style of French Colonial domestic architecture once common throughout Louisiana but now rare. Built on a Spanish land-grant to Andre Massé. Probably in the period 1764-1776, it is the oldest extant structure in St. Mary parish. The house has been home to several notable Louisianans, including Agricole Fuselier, Charles Grevemberg and philanthropist and educator John Baldwin, after whom the town is named.
