Star Spangled Banner Centennial

This plaque is just outside the sally port at Fort McHenry. It was placed in 1914, on the centennial of Francis Scott Key’s composition of the poem “The Defence of Fort McHenry,” better known as the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner. Below it there’s another plaque, of more recent vintage, giving some more historical context.
