QUEENS HEAD HOTEL
In the 1850s High Street was a busy shopping centre when this hotel was built of bluestone.
The fan-light over the front door and the excellent stonework on the facade are typical features for a
modest hotel of the Gold Rush period. The hotel was damaged by fire in 1915, and re-built in five
and a raised roofline. It was delicensed in 1936. Of note is the sign on the
side wall advertising Wolfe's Schnapps, a popular "medicinal gin" from the 1800s.
