Palmiten temple, Utrecht

This plaque telles about the chapel "St. Jan" or Palmiten temple, a Roman chapel that was situated at this spot until 1581. After that, it was transferred to the order of Jeruzalem brotherhood, and it served as a chapel for these pilgrims until the Reformation period. After 1581 it was replaced with houses and shops for the expanding city of Utrecht. In the pavement in front of the current bookshop the outline of theĀ  chapel is marked by colored pavement stones.
