This inscription is on the back of a large statue of Viking Leifur Eiriksson, the earnest adventurer who discovered the North American continent nearly 400 years before Columbus. This statue was a gift to Reykjavik from the US to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, which was founded in 930. It reads:
Leifur Eiricsson
Son of Iceland

to the People of Iceland
on the one thousandth
anniversary of the Althing
AD 1930
