CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE WAS ACQUIRED FOR THE SCHOOL CHILDREN OF ALACHUA COUNTY IN 1948. THE PROPERTY, PART OF A UNITED STATES MILITARY BASE DURING WORLD WAR II, WAS RECEIVED BY HOWARD BISHOP, SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE ALACHUA COUNTY BOARD OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION AT NO COST. WIDESPREAD COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROVIDED IMPROVE-MENTS IN THE PHYSICAL FACILITIES IN THE EARLY 1980's.
