Butchart Gardens Totem Pole
Throughout British Columbia, travelers can find all sorts of totem poles with a wide variety of carvings. According to Wikipedia, "carvings may symbolize or commemorate cultural beliefs that recount familiar legends, clan lineages, or notable events."
This totem pole is found inside The Butchart Gardens, located in Brentwood Bay, just north of the city of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The plaque reads:
"Eagle with Salmon, Orca, Bear with Salmon
This Totem Pole, carved in Contemporary Coast Salish style by master carver Doug LaFortune of the Tsawout First Nation, was dedicated on September 9th, 2004 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Butchart Gardens."
