City name. The city is commonly spelled Ekaterinburg; the official spelling is Yekaterinburg. During the Soviet era (more accurately from 1924 to 1991), the city was known as Sverdlovsk.

Date. The full photograph was taken in 1996. The close-up photograph was taken in 1997 (on the opposite side of the monument).

Location. This particular border marker (there might be others) is located a comfortable drive West of Ekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.

For the record, in the full, non-close-up photograph, Europe is to the left-hand side of the photograph and Asia is to the right-hand side of the photograph.
