This tree, now known as the McFall Oak, is an oak tree in Glendale, California that is well over 150 years old. Local legend has it that it was used as a meeting place for Tiburcio Vásquez and his fellow bandits in the 1860s. It is located in Deukmejian Wilderness Park on the edge of Angeles National Forest. In 2009 the Station Fire burned down nearly a third of Angeles National Forest, including the area immediately surrounding the tree, but this oak tree was preserved. The plaque reads: “In recognition of the leadership of Assistant City Manager Bob McFall to preserve this heritage oak during the 2009 Station Fire, the Community Services & Parks Department has designated this stately tree as ‘The McFall Oak’.”
