Where to begin?
The knob is, or rather was, a huge plug of rock where Col John Stark's men set artillery
to cut off a path of retreat for the British during the Saratoga Campaign of 1777.
Fidelity to history did not prevent frugal Yankees and other local lickpennies from opening a quarry here.
So far as I know there is no illustration extant of the Knob before it was quarried. But it must of been sizable as mining continued for decades.
Stark would soon to earn fame as the architect of the patriot victory over the Hessians in nearby Bennington, Vermont.
