Rawlins Springs

Just loved the description of the spring by Gen. Rawlins - who was part of the 1867 survey party that was exploring a route for the Union Pacific Railroad: "General John A. Rawlins, a member of the party, spoke of the spring as 'the most gracious and acceptable of anything he had had on the march' and said that if anything was ever named after him he wanted it to be a spring of water." Especially enjoyed the "aw shucks" quality of the general saying "Well, if you ever find yourselves wanting to name anything after me, I'd certainly like it to be a spring of water" (Like this "gracious and acceptable" one right here!)
