The plaque records "A German bomb moved this statue one inch on its plinth on the 14th. November 1940". The bomb is believed to have been a stray, or jettisoned. The night of the 14 November was the first blitz that devastated the centre of Coventry (the second was 8 April 1941). The commemoration has been noted by fellow-contributors: SP3165 : Queen Victoria's Statue, SP3165 : We are amused and SP3165 : Victoria and the Town Hall.
