Situated on the upstream side of the bridge near its south end. The bridge was built to replace the first bridge here over the Tweed, built in 1754 and destroyed by flood in 1797 (from 'Border Highways' by John James Mackay, Kelso 1998). One of the lamp standards relocated from the Waterloo Bridge is shown in NT7233 : Gas Lamp salvaged from the old Waterloo Bridge now on Rennie's Bridge, Kelso.
