This plaque commemorates the pioneering scientists on this campus 
who have made discovers and advances that are essential 
to many areas of life science research, forensics, and patient care.

  • 1983 - 1991 Discovery and development of the Nobel Prize-winning
    polymerase chain reaction technology ("PCR")
  • 1984: First sequencing of the HIV genome
  • 1988: First blood test for the Hepatitis B virus
  • 1989: Disovery of the Hepatitis C virus
  • And so many more!

 

This plaque commemorates the discovery of Polymerase Chain Reaction, an important development for biology which has aided in blood testing and virus detection. This area of Northern California is still a major biotech sector.
