Situated on the historic site of Hendon's London Aerodrome in Colindale, the North London Museum, is one of two sites belonging to the U.K's only national museum that tells the story of the Royal Air Force through its people and collections. The collections in London include some very early aircraft designs through to the latest modern day jets and military aircraft. This memorial was set in place by the Bomber Command Association in memory of the extraordinary bravery shown by the Resistance in returning more than 2,500 members of Bomber Command safely to their Squadrons after being show down over enemy territory. It was unveiled by the Comptesse de Jongh (Dede) leader of the Comete Escape Line - 12th July 1986.
