Marcour Residence

Oscar J. Marcour (1895-1956), violinist and bandleader, lived here at 431 Opelousas Ave from 1917 to 1919. He played with the Jules Bauduc Orchestra at the Silver Slipper, made and Edison Dictaphone recording c. 1918-1919 at pianist Norman Brownlee’s house with Brownlee and the legendary cornetist Emmet Hardy, and worked in bands of major jazzmen. His brother Milton D. “Mickey” Marcour (1897-1961), pianist, lived here from 1917 to 1923. Mickey played in the Halfway House Orchestra, and the 4 New Orleans Jazz Babies with Stalebread Lacoume, Buck Rogers, and Abbie Brunies at the Bucktown Tavern, aka Martin’s Café.
