Installed in December 2013 facing Ffordd Dysgu, Maesteg, the plaque Link overlooks the site of the first iron works in Maesteg. The Maesteg Iron Works (known as The Old Works) was founded by the Maesteg Iron and Coal Company, set up by Thomas Jones and his brothers in 1826 with capital from London-based investors. The Royal Commission report of 1842 stated that the ironworks had a workforce of 561 of which 47 were female and 19 were children under 13. The works closed in 1860 after the insolvency of the then controlling company, R.P. Lemon & Co.
