ON THIS DAY, CONEY ISLAND LIBRARY WAS DEVASTATED BY HURRICANE SANDY. FIVE FEET OF WATER FLOODED THE BRANCH, DESTROYING BOOKS, FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT. BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY WAS FORCED TO CLOSE THE BUILDING FOR NEARLY A YEAR. AFTER EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS, CONEY ISLAND LIBRARY WAS REOPENED ON OCTOBER 23, 2013.
