Francis Benjamin Johnston House

This Greek Revival house was erected for Mme. Julie Duralde, widow of John Clay, Henry Clay’s brother who purchased the property in 1835 and owned it until her death in 1861.

From 1940 until 1952 it was the residence of Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952), noted photographer of presidents, national leaders and southern architecture. She was called “the photographer of the American country.”
