This Flag Pole Has Story...
The Tilden Environmental Education Center flag
pole is a re-purposed mast of "Loon" Bird
Boat 13, built in 1929. The legendary "S" class
San Francisco Bird Boats are 30 foot wooden
sloops that were specifically designed as sturdy
and affordable craft, able to withstand the
rigors of sailing on San Francisco Bay. May of
these classic sailboats are still racing today.
