The covenanters' stone lies under the metal grid within a wooden fenced area close to the summit of Duns Law. The plaque above the metal grid reads: ON THIS STONE ACCORDING TO UNBROKEN TRADITION WAS RAISED THE STANDARD OF THE COVENANTERS WHEN IN 1639 THEIR ARMY UNDER GENERAL SIR ALEX LESLIE ASSEMBLED ON DUNS LAW Behind the stone itself is a cairn commemorating the event. The plaque in the cairn reads: THIS CAIRN COMMEMORATES THE ENCAMPMENT HERE OF THE COVENANTERS UNDER GENERAL SIR ALEX LESLIE 1639
