Seen in close-up in SX9163 : Plaque, Princess Parade, Torquay. "Within a short distance from this spot Henry Cranmer March-Phillipps, of Wellswood Torquay, JP for Devon, on the 12th day of April 1873, he being then eighty years old, threw himself into the sea to rescue a drowning child, and was at the risk of his own life, instrumental in saving hers. The local board of Tormohan, proud of the gallantry of their fellow townsman and desirous that the record of such an act should be perpetuated, caused this memorial to be placed here"
