Erected to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, these 16 plaques detail Bournemouth's history, using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the timeline. They are situated along the path running down the western side of the Pavilion Theatre and over the wall is a view across the Lower Gardens. This opening explanatory plaque explains that they "celebrate both the interesting history of the town and the pioneering spirit which has seen Bournemouth continually renew itself for the challenges of each new age." It goes on to say that Councillor Rodney and Mrs Elaine Cooper designed the plaques, and that they were unveiled by Mrs Julia Smith, great-great-great-great granddaughter of Lewis Tregonwell, the town's founder. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (1) for the first in the series of fifteen plaques which are set out along the wall to the left - and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for a view of the central five plaques in their context.
