Boring Machine
GENEVOISE DRILLING AND BORING MACHINE, C1929
This high-precision machine was made by the Societe
Genevoise d'instruments de Physique in Switzerland
and installed in the Locomotive Workshop in 1930.
Two of these machines were purchased by the NSW
Government Railways in the 1930s. Their high-precision
drilling and boring functions were considered so sensitive
that these machines were installed in a climate-controlled,
dust-free room. Both of these important machines were
in use up until the closure of the Locomotive Workshops
in the 1960s, and had been adapted with computer-assisted
controls for greater accuracy.
