The United Nations declares certain "international observances": these are usually special days, years, or even decades. Official logos are created for each of these observances, using the symbolism of the UN. 1986 was declared the "International Year of Peace", and the plaque shows the corresponding official logo, incorporating the two olive branches of the standard United Nations emblem.]
